The Hampshire city has overtaken Oxford, according to analysis by Halifax, the UK’s biggest mortgage lender. Buying a home in Winchester will set buyers back an average of £630,432, up eight per cent in the last year.
With earnings in Winchester averaging at £45,059, it means house prices are 14 times the average salary.
